The times they are a changin’

You guys. I know I said more regular posts to come and then didn’t post for a few weeks. But this October was I think the most chaotic month I’ve ever had. I had a few major life changes occur and I just wanted to take a post and update you all on where life is right now.

As some of you may know, or recall, my amazing husband is working full time and going to school. The goal is that once he graduates next year and moves into his new position, I’d be able to stay home full time with Oliver and not have to worry about adult things like making enough to pay the bills. Until then, my mother-in-law watches Oliver 2 days a week so that I can work part time. Well last month that plan got thrown out the window when my mother-in-law moved back home to Mexico. I want to make a note here that I am in no way upset with her for leaving, I’m actually really happy for her. But I won’t lie when I say that it really changed my whole life. Since I no longer had a reliable place for Oliver to go 2 days a week, I had to quit my part time job. And I had to do it very suddenly. When I say suddenly I mean 1 week in advance. But here’s the thing about that job, my bosses are super understanding and were willing to let me keep working 2 hours a day for a while. Basically so that I didn’t just abandon my job and to give them time to hire someone. So we didn’t just drop to one income instantly which was a little bit of a stress relief. Then literally the same week I got a call from a job that offered flexible hours and temporary work that I had applied for months ago thinking it would be an alright extra income for a while. So two weeks after my mother-in-law left I went to do training for my new job, the timing was almost perfect.

The strange thing for me is, my ultimate goal is to be a full time stay at home mom and I feel like I’m going in the opposite direction of that. I went from working at my part time job and spending most of my time hanging out with Oliver, to working two part time jobs and trying to still be a good mom to Oliver all within about two weeks. I’m a creature of habit and routine, so the shift is taking me some time to get used to. Just the adjustment in schedule is different, but I’m also learning a new job as well.

The whole thing has also been a change for Oliver. I don’t know how aware of it he is, but he really knew our routine. He knew the days that his dad was going to take him to his Abuela and the days that I would come back from work after a few hours and spend the day with him. Now there are no more Abuela days, and while he’s gotten used to it, I can’t help but wonder if he wonders why.

I just wanted to get this quick update out. We have some plans in the next two months with the holidays so I’ll be sure to update you all a lot more regularly, I promise.
