Bringing home baby, with a toddler

So my already sporadic posts are becoming even more sporadic. Such is life. But I really appreciate those of you who read these. I really enjoy doing them and maybe someday I’ll be able to get more regular posts up, but don’t hold your breath. The point being, thank you for being here. Anyways, I wanted to share about how it went bringing a newborn baby home with a three year old in the house. A new family addition shifts things so much, but getting a toddler prepared for that shift was a new hurdle for us. When we brought Oliver home we did a lot of preparing the animals…

Binky, Paci, Dummy. Whatever you call it, it’s gone.

Oliver has hit another milestone that I feel is worth noting. Well, two actually. He has finally ditched the binky and moved into a real bed. Oliver has been a binky baby from the start, which is awesome at times. As a little baby it was always pretty easy to calm him down, just get him the binky. Going to sleep typically went alright, as long as he had his binky (and blanket). But I have always been a bit nervous about the day when we had to get him off the binky for good. Would he ever sleep again? Would it be countless nights of crying over not having…

    Baby Led Weaning

Oliver is 14 months old now, and he eats like a champ! We are pretty lucky with him in general, but eating has always been a breeze. Oliver was exclusively breastfed until he was 6 months old, then I started introducing foods, while still breastfeeding. When Oliver was about 9 months old, my milk supply dropped substantially and we started using formula. I was fortunate and happy that I was able to breastfeed for the first 6 months, but I didn’t feel any shame with switching to formula, to be honest they only downside of it was the cost. Oliver continued eating more and more solids, to the point where…

    ER Visit

Alright guys. I’m going to share with you probably the worst day/afternoon I’ve ever had as a mom. It’s one of the reasons I had a few week gap in posting. It’s also one of the reasons I’m worried I’m going to turn into a helicopter mom that never lets her kid do anything without me. Also fair warning, this post is sad. I mean it’s about a baby getting hurt, not one of my happier topics. A few weeks ago I had to take Oliver to the emergency room. I experienced the worst feeling in the world as a parent. But don’t worry. There is a happy ending. My…

    Babies and animals

So I decided to jump back to some mom topics for a bit. I loved reflecting on some trips, but it made me look at maps and flights way too much. Now I want a vacation even more! While I was sitting dreaming about where I want to go next I saw Oliver crawl over to Dude, tug on his ear and crawl away. Dude didn’t react at all and it made me so happy that he is so patient with Oliver. While our animal-baby relations may not be 100% perfect, I thought it would be worthwhile to explain how we brought Oliver home to the animals and how we’ve…

    Stay At Home Mom Routine

If you read my Christmas post, you know how excited I was to celebrate Oliver’s first Christmas. Well, fate had other things in mind and Christmas Eve I got the stomach flu. I spent basically all of Christmas day on the couch asleep, which left Mauricio taking care of Oliver pretty much by himself. I guess we were lucky that it happened on Christmas and Mauricio was off all day, if Mauricio was at work I really don’t know what I would have done. Taking care of Olivers every need left Mauricio with a whole new understanding of what it’s like to take care of him all day and night.…

    Cloth Diapering

So this is the first decision I made as a mom, and one that I made before my baby was even born. I decided that I wanted to try cloth diapers for my baby when I was about 4 months pregnant. My initial reason for looking in to them was the cost. For the first time in my life I was paying attention to how much baby stuff costs and I saw that a box of diapers was $20! Now I’m not going to call myself poor, because we aren’t, but our household definitely runs on a budget. So when I did the math, I figured it was going to…
